The multiplayer is a complete waste of time and the story campaign is horribly bland and unexciting. The cut scenes and voiceovers are unintentionally hilarious.Ĭons: The aiming controls just aren’t precise enough, even on a New 3DS. Pros: On a technical level the graphics are excellent, and the online multiplayer works very well – with very little lag. In Short: A technical showcase for the 3DS but artistically speaking this gets almost everything wrong, from the banal action to the laughable storytelling. We don’t think it’s unfair to say that online shooters are not a natural fit for the 3DS, and although we’re sure it’s not impossible to make one work IronFall is not the game to prove it. We don’t like to say that particular game genres shouldn’t be on certain consoles, but clearly they all have their particular specialities. Neither is worth it but the multiplayer mode in particular is a complete no-go.

Technically IronFall is a free-to-play title, although it’s more like an extended demo – with the game offering enough free content to get a feel for it and then tempting you to buy the single-player campaign and online multiplayer separately, for £8.99 each. In fact the voiceovers are so bad they’re good, and probably our favourite bit of the game (we particularly love the exclamation of ‘cool!’ when completing a successful active reload). The problem with IronFall is obvious from the opening seconds of its first cut scene, with it’s ultra generic art style, mannequin like characters, and what is some of the most hilariously bad dialogue and voiceover work we’ve heard in years. There’s a wide range of different weapons to collect and a sizeable campaign with considerable variation in scenery, and… it’s completely boring.
